Klaipeda University (KU)

Klaipeda University (KU) is an institution of higher education in the Western Lithuania Region (www.ku.lt). Its mission is to develop the University of Lithuania as a marine state and up-to-date centre of research, arts, and studies in the Baltic Sea Region for the purpose of education and training of highly qualified specialists. A base created for on-going fundamental, applied research and experimental development activities in physical, biomedical, technology, social sciences and humanities to carry out has more than 60 laboratories, a botanical garden, research vessel Mintis and scientific-research and training schooner Brabander. Klaipėda University implements Integrated Science, Studies and Business Center – Marine Valley – program for Lithuanian maritime sector development. The University aims to be the leader in marine science and technology. Present strategic priorities of the University are: developing rational and sustainable academic structure, fostering of integrated interdisciplinary research, creating new interdisciplinary study programmes, upgrading study programmes with the newest technological decisions. University expands its internationalization by taking part in the main academic networks across the Baltic Sea Region and Europe; it has tied agreement-based cooperation with more than 40 foreign universities. More than 190 partner universities in Europe are Erasmus Mobility partners of KU. More than 100 R&D projects are pursued annually at KU (http://www.ku.lt/en/research/scientific-projects/). KU researchers participate in national and international science, studies and art projects. KU researchers actively participate in regional cooperation programs such as INTERREG, Nordplus Neighbour, Baltic Sea Region, South Baltic, South Baltic Cross-border Cooperation Programme.
The project proposal is prepared by interdisciplinary research group, who actively participates in EU FP6, FP7, HORIZON 2020 programmes within thematic topics as follows: sustainable development, global change and ecosystems; biodiversity conservation, development of surface transport, socio-economic impact on biodiversity and ecosystems, energy, environment (including climate change) management technologies, information and communication technology.

Role in project

Klaipeda University will carry out the survey of stakeholders and together with partners develop competence framework for SECCM graduates. KU will actively participate in the designing and implementation of Master degree study program “Smart Environment Change Management”. KU will lead the WP for the implementation of online Collaboration Platform. This platform will be used for the project management, for the joint work of all academic staff and students during and after the project. KU will introduce the new technologies for the creation of eLearning materials in the form of “Mobile lectures” and will take part in the implementation of the e&m-learning modules in the scope of syllabi for Master degree study programme. Further, KU will transfer e-learning didactic and methodical experiences for training students to all partners of the consortium. KU will host staff from EU and EG universities for the trainings in technologies as well as students from Partner Country universities for intensive courses and practice on research vessels and research laboratories. Finally, KU will support Egypt universities in issues of quality assurance, assessment and sustainability.
